How Many Bags Do You Need?

As a general rule of thumb:

• One 3L bag covers approximately 5 gallons of aquarium volume.
• One 9L bag covers approximately 15 gallons of aquarium volume.
• One 9L bag provides approximately 4 inches of substrate depth over 1 square foot.

For a more accurate estimate, calculate the volume of substrate needed using:

Tank Length × Tank Width × Desired Substrate Depth = Required Volume

Example

One 9L bag contains approximately 9,000 cm³ (cubic centimeters), or 549.2 cubic inches.

For an ADA 60P aquarium measuring 60 cm × 30 cm, if you want a substrate depth of 5 cm:

60 cm × 30 cm × 5 cm = 9,000 cm³

Therefore, one 9L bag will provide approximately 5 cm of substrate depth across the bottom of an ADA 60P aquarium.

Actual substrate depth may vary depending on the aquarium layout, substrate slope, and how densely the soil is packed.
